The Slightly Frilly Bio
Born and raised in South Carolina, Lisa Huff Sloan lived most of her childhood in a small, cinder block home in a rural part of the state.
As a young child, she spent summers running around barefoot and playing outside. Then, as a teenager, Lisa began to spend more time indoors, working her first job at a mom-and-pop video store (yes, video—as in VHS); in between customers, she spent countless hours watching movies.
In high school, one of her English teachers sparked a passion for writing—and instilled in her the fundamentals that would enable her success. Lisa graduated from the University of South Carolina with a B.A. in Journalism and a secondary emphasis in English.
Her first professional job was as a journalist with The Associated Press (AP). She would go on to work for several other media outlets, including The Associated Press Broadcast News Center, a daily newspaper in Alabama and an all-news television station (which no longer exists) in Florida. One of her favorite assignments (which happened at The AP) was writing the Christmas Eve updates from North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), who was tracking Santa.
She parlayed her journalism experience into public relations and media relations roles, including a stint at the Columbus Metropolitan Library. There, she wrote everything from speeches to news releases and also served as a library spokesperson. Lisa then settled into a long-term gig in corporate America, where she’s been able to write a range of materials.
She is currently working on her debut novel.
